Veteran Tamil and Malayalam producer Irruppam Veedu Sasidaran, famously known as I.V. Sasi, passed away in Chennai yesterday. He was 69 years old.
Sasi had directed any semblance of Kamal Haasan and superstar Rajinikanth and furthermore has the credit of acquainting megastar Mammotty with Mollywood. Sasi’s period venture Alavudeenum Arputha Vilakkum featured Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth together. His intense 1978 film Avalude Ravukal featured youthful Seema as a sex-worker who later got married to him in 1980. The couple has two girls.
Born in West Hill close Kozhicode in 1948, he did Viscom from Chennai’s Loyola College and appeared in Malayalam films first as an art director, filled in as assistant director in a couple of movies before appearing as chief in 1975. He has directed Mammootty in 35 films and made more than 150 movies general including films featuring leading Mollywood heroes including Mohanlal, Soman and Sukumaran.
Sasi’s 1982 venture Aaroodam won the national award for ‘national trustworthiness’. He had won numerous trees including the ‘lifetime accomplishment award’ in 2013. Sasi griped of uneasiness in chest yesterday morning at his Saligramam living arrangement after which he was hurried to an adjacent healing facility however was proclaimed brought dead at the Hospital.
